CENTRALIA

Day Center - Fall 2019 (IDEC Student Design Competition)

(Team project made with Ivy Branden)

Project information
Deisgn concept

Centralia was designed to reference movement and growth. Fargo’s history is showcased throughout the space to correlate with the changes that may be taking place in the visitors lives, while also keeping the culture of downtown alive. By using a dark, but warm color scheme with highlights of biophilia to show our incorporation of LEED aspects, we created a comforting environment. The community garden included in the back can be a serene space as well as a source for fresh produce. Our goal was to create an uplifting environment that is accessible to all and brings people together.

Fargo, historically called “The Gateway to the West” was originally named Centralia. Building a centralized area for the homeless shelter, we chose a location close to Broadway for inclusivity. There is accessible transportation, grocery options, healthcare, and school centers nearby. The logo was designed to symbolize the railway, as well as nod towards moving forward and staying positive. We recreated pieces of the logo throughout Centralia’s design, as well as relate to other classic train motifs.
