TOMORROW'S PLACE
PHASE 2

Affordable Housing Complex - Fall 2019

Project information
DeSIGN concept

Spaces have the ability to comfort, engage, and motivate it inhabits sometimes equal to or even more than words. Tomorrows Place creates a community-based design that utilized multiple design techniques so that the various ages, heights, and circumstances could all be met. The color scheme exhibited bright colors of the rainbow, there was a mix of different shapes used throughout while high lighting curves as a safety feature for younger siblings. Also, there was a focus on sustainability, such as the use of materials and textures. Way finding is a crucial point to have in any commercial building, but especially in areas where children may walk off on their own, because of this I decided to create bright, multi-colored room labels that are as large as 3’ wide and have a thickness of 2”. I created an open floor plan to relate to transparency and create more comfort due to awareness in the surroundings. Tomorrow’s place radiates positivism, strengthens support, and endorses the growth of all who enter.

For Phase 2 we worked individually with the ability to branch off from the original design concept. I decided to continue the color scheme with a more 70's style influence that will stem from the logo design. I plan to keep more permanent materials neutral and use more colorful finishes on surfaces that are perishable. Due to the Phase 2 design direction, I decided to create a innovative Murphy bed that includes nightstands as well as an office space. This will allow the bed to perform three functions; one bed, two beds, or an office space that will allow family size to dictate room function.
